West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee informed the state Assembly that 113 castes have been excluded from the state’s OBC list. She said this decision may affect students seeking jobs under OBC reservation. “It will create inconvenience in providing jobs to students,” Banerjee stated during her address.
She added that the OBC Commission has already recommended re-inclusion of several of these communities, and the matter is currently under consideration. The Chief Minister also mentioned that the state has a total of 140 OBC categories and multiple surveys are in progress to address community status under the OBC list.
Banerjee further alleged that false information is being spread regarding OBC status on social media. “Social media is filled with fake news,” she said, adding that misinformation related to OBC classifications is causing confusion. She urged for caution and clarity while the matter is being handled.
